Intro to Black Letter Calligraphy

Workshop details
Date: Sunday, March 24 - 9:00am - 12:00pm

Join us for an introductory workshop on Black Letter Calligraphy.

In this 3 hour workshop you will learn how to use an edged tool (like a Pilot Parallel Pen) to create the strokes used in Calligraphic styles.

After a short talk on the background of Calligraphic hands, we will start with learning how to make a few simple strokes and then ‘assemble’ these strokes into letters. We will then learn what makes up the essential structure of a particular script and practice a few different forms.

At the end of the workshop, you will know how letters are formed and will know how to go about studying whichever script calls out to you. We will have time for lots of questions and practice.

This is a great introductory workshop for those looking to start with broad edged calligraphy or for those wanting to refine their knowledge and learn a way to analyse scripts.

*All necessary supplies will be provided. They will be yours to keep
